Discussion & Documentation

Michael Werbitske [sic] is recorded on the 1798 census of Seelmann in Household No. Sm51 along with a note that he is illegitimate.

A 1807 report to the Kontora [Office of Immigrant Oversight] by Forsteher (Mayor) Gerstner of Mariental records that Michael Werwitzke from Seelmann, who was fleeing from the Schönchen region, was caught near the Mechetke River by colonists from Mariental. The report also indicates that Michael Werwitzke was the illegitimate son of the deceased Cordilia Heindel [see Heindel family] and was brought up in the household of Seelmann colonist Mattias Zimmermann.

Michael Werwitski married on 16 November 1808 to Katharina Neu née Düpner from Hölzel. She died 3 June 1810.

Michael Werwitzki remarried on 24 July 1810 to Anna Maria Frank [née Kisser] from Hölzel.

Michael Werwitzki and his sons (Nikolaus, born about 1815, died in 1823; Georg, born about 1821) are recorded on the 1834 census of Seelmann in Household No. 125.

The death of Michael Werwitzki in 1836 is recorded on the 1850 census of Seelmann in Household No. 181.

Georg Werwitzki and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Seelmann in Household No. 231.
