Friedrich Westmann, a single merchant (Kaufmann), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Conr. Fried. Westman [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 23 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 221.
Konrad Friedrich Westmann (age 35), a merchant (Kaufmann), and his wife Johanna Dorothea née Oswald (age 24) are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 49 along with a note that they have been on leave [beurlaubt] in Orenburg since 1775.
It is recorded in 1786 on the Movement Table accompanying the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt that a daughter of Kaspar Seifert married Konrad Westmann of Katharinenstadt, that they departed long ago, and that their current location is unknown.
The Oranienbaum passenger list, the 1767 census, and the 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register all record that Friedrich Westmann came from Kurland (Latvia). The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register also records that Johanna Dorothea Westmann née Oswald came from the German region of Dessau-Anhalt.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Westmann family among the Volga German colonies.
