Johann Winker, a Catholic chaplain (Geistlicher), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Louis on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 44.

In 1771, Lorenz Winker and his family left Louis.

The 1767 census records that Johann Winker came from Wien (Vienna), Austria.
