Discussion & Documentation

Johann[es] Winter, his wife Anna, and their children (Georg, age 10; Philipp, age 7; Johann, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Junge Friederika under the command of Skipper Christian Korsholm. Anna died, and Johannes remarried Eva, the widow of Wilhelm Wollmann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Straub on 12 July 1767. Eva died in Straub on 27 October 1767. The remaining members of the Winter and Wollmann families are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 52.

The 1767 census records that Johannes Winter came from the German village of Nauheim in the Nassau-Usingen region.
