Johann Daniel Wolf, a soldier (Soldat), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Schäfer on 1 August 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 31.

The 1767 census records that Johann Daniel Wolf came from the German city of Kiel in the Holstein region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Wolf family among the Volga German colonies.
