Maria Katharina Wolffanger and her unnamed husband settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann on 15 July 1767. She is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 87 along with a note that her husband had died 28 August 1767.

The 1767 census records that Maria Katharina Wolffanger came from the German village of Stuttgart in the Württemberg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
