Johann Wurst, a teacher (Lehrer), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 62 along with a note that they relocated to the colony of Näb in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Johann Wurst came from the German region of Wittenrot.
