Zimmermann (Seelmann)

There are three Zimmermann families that arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the galliot named Kronshlot under the command of Skipper Ivan Kunakovskii. They settled in the Volga German colony of Seelmann:

(1) Michael Zimmermann (who had arrived in Oranienbaum as a single man) and his wife Elisabeth settled in Seelmann on 15 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 24. Elisabeth is believed to be the widow of both Alexander Morbius and Friedrich Zanner. It is believed that Elisabeth's children (recorded as Georg Zanner, age 8, and & Christoph Zanner, age 4) are actually her children by Alexander Morbius.

(2) Johannes Zimmermann and his family settled in Seelmann on 15 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25.

(3) Matthias Zimmermann and his wife Margaretha settled in Seelmann on 16 August 1767. Margaretha died on 6 September 1767. Matthias is recorded on the 1767 census of Seelmann in Household No. 77.

The 1767 census records that all three of these Zimmermann families came from the German village of Kanswehr in the Alsace region.
