Discussion & Documentation

Johann Zohl, a farmer, his wife, and children (Eva, age 15; Johann, age 14; Elisabeth, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Reders.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Hussenbach in 1767. The 1798 census of Hussenbach records the widow and daughter of deceased son Heinrich Zohl in Household No. Hs100.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Zohl came from the German region of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Zohl family among the Volga German colonies.
