Karl Theodor Hölz, son of Pastor Franz Karl Hölz & Louise Amalie Jahn, was born 29 November 1837 in Warenburg.
He studied theology at the University of Dorpat [in Estonia] and was ordained in the 5th Sunday after Easter on 5 May 1863.
Following his ordination, Pastor Hölz served the Volga German congregations in Weizenfeld (1863-1883) and Reinhard (1883-1896).
He went to St. Petersburg in 1896 where he died on 7 November 1897.
Pastor Hölz was the founder and publisher of “Kalender für die deutschen Ansiedler an der Wolga” (1873-1893, Riga) which was later known as “Friedensboten–Kalender.” It was published from 1894 to 1916 in the Volga region by the editors of the Evangelical Lutheran monthly magazine Friedensbote which continued following his death.
