Neu-Schilling
In 1855, Neu-Schilling was founded by colonists resettling from Schilling. It was located 153 kilometers southeast of Saratov and was part of the Friedenfeld parish.
In 1915, the colony was officially renamed to Sosnovka.
The documents accompanying the 1934 Map of the Volga Germans (reprinted in 1997) incorrectly identifies it as the current village of Kostyantinivka.
Today, nothing remains of the former Volga German colony of Neu-Schilling.
Neu-Schilling is the birthplace of the poet Robert Frank (1918-2001).
The Lutheran congregation in Neu-Schilling was served by the parish in Eckheim where there was a resident pastor.
In the early years, the parishners worshiped in the Bethaus (a combination of school & church buildings). A wooden church building was consecrated in Neu-Schilling on 3 May 1887, with a sanctuary designed to hold 300 worshipers. This building was closed by decree of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Volga Germans on 2 June 1936. At that time, there were still 459 people registered in the church community.
