History:

Khortitza [Chortitza / Chortiza in German] was founded in 1910 when land was allocated for the resettlement of farmers from the European region of Russia. Many were Mennonites. In 1913, the first school opened in Khortitza. In 1931, the collective farm named "Landmann" was organized. It was renamed "Telmann" in 1950.

Volga Germans were resettled there as part of the 1941 Deportation.
