Kaspar Axthelm, a sock weaver from Überau, married Elisabeth (surname unknown), the widow of Georg Heinrich Buxmann who had died on 13 January 1760 in Überau. The parish register in Überau records that Axthelm "took off for Russia in the night with his wife and 4 step-children, leaving behind many debts, a house, and goods."
Axthelm settled in the colony of Grimm, and is recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 87 married to Susanna Katharina Amendt. Two of the Buxmann stepsons (Georg & Johann Jacob) settled in Müller on 16 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12.
Kaspar Axthelm and his wife are recorded on the 1775 Census in Grimm, Household No. 156, and on the 1798 Census in Household No. Gm149.
Since Kaspar Axthelm does not appear to have had any children, this surname does not continue among the Volga Germans.
