Discussion & Documentation

Michael Hamm, son of Michael Hamm (1758-1831) & Helena Esau (1759-1834), was born 25 April 1790 in Orloff, Gross Werder, part of the Ladekopp Mennonite Congregation in West Prussia. [Today Ladekopp is located in Poland and is known as Lubieszewo.] He married 25 October 1821 to Helena Klaassen, daughter of Dirk Klaassen (1765-1843) & Anna Penner (1769-1824). She was born 7 June 1798 in Fürstenwerder, Gross Werder, Prussia.

In 1852, Michael and his family moved to the Molotschna colony of Juschanlee. From there they moved to Hahnsau where they are listed in Household No. 9 on the 1857 Census.

David Hamm, son of Jacob Hamm (also of Orloff), was born 4 October 1822 in Ladekopp. He immigrated with his wife Anna Hamm, daughter of the above mentioned Michael Hamm & Helena Klaassen, to Russia in 1853 and settled in the Volga German Mennonite colony of Köppental.
