Johannes Huppenbauer, son of Johann Bartholomäus Huppenbauer & Anna Friederike Ludmann, was born 9 May 1816 in Untertürkheim in Württemburg.

He studied theology at the Basel Missionary Society and was ordained 2 October 1841.

His first marriage was on 3 October 1841 in Basel to Maria Dorothea Salathé (born 6 February 1816 in Basel). She died and Pastor Huppenbauer remarried in 1849 in the colony of Sarepta with Henriette Karoline Glitsch, who was born on 22 November 1827 in Tystrup-Christiansfeld, Schleswig.

He served the parish in Pyätigorsk-Karras from 1841 to 1845; in Tiflis from 1845 to 1851; and in Reinhard from 1853 to 1880.

He retired in 1880 and moved to Saratov where he died 8 May 1887.
