Valentin Rockel, a farmer, his wife Susanna, and children (Katharina, age 18; Elisabeth, age 15; Johann, age 11; Ulrich, age 3¼; Georg, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a galliot named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper David Wohlert.
Valentin Rockel evidently died and his widow remarried to Ludwig LaVergne. [See LaVergne Family.]

Johannes Rockel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Balzer in Household No. Bz027.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Valentin Rockel came from the German region of Riedesel.
The surname was spelled "Rogel" in subsequent records.
