Discussion & Documentation

Jean Baptist Wiong was born in approximately 1786, probably in France. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou.

He is recorded on the 1834 Nieder-Monjou Census in Household No. 117. In 1822, he moved to Katharinenstadt where he is recorded in Household No. 219 on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt. He is not recorded on the 1857 census of Katharinenstadt, so is presumed to have died before 1850.
