Discussion & Documentation

Jakob Schweigert, a butcher (Fleischer), his wife Katharina, and son Gottlieb (age ¼), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

The parish register of Schilling records the birth of Anna Dorothea Schweiger[t], daughter of Jakob Schweiger[t] & Maria Barbara Rückner, on 3 May 1767 in Kolomna while en route to the colonies.

Jakob Schweigert (age 33), a butcher (Fleischer), his wife Barbara (age 22), and daughter Anna Dorothea (age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Preuss in Household No. 124. They had arrived there on 16 August 1767.

In 1795, Johannes Schweigert moved from Preuss to Hölzel.

Johann Schweigert from Preuss and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Hölzel in Household No. Hz11.

The death of Johannes Schweigert in 1830 is recorded on the 1834 census of Hölzel in Household No. 62.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Schweigert came from the German region of Brunkau. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Niederstotzingen.
