Johannes Maul was born in Radmühl and baptized at the parish church in Freiensteinau on 14 February 1710. He married in Bindsachsen on 29 May 1738 to Anna Catharina Schneider. She had been born in Bindsachsen and baptized there on 27 September 1714.
The baptisms of three children born to Johannes Maul & Anna Catharina Schneider are recorded in the parish register of Bindsachsen: (1) Johann Heinrich, baptized 30 September 1742; (2) Johann Carl Maul, baptized 11 July 1745; and (3) Anna Catharina, baptized 13 June 1751.
Father Johannes Maul was a carpenter (Zimmermann). He died and was buried in Bindsachsen on 20 May 1752. No second marriage or death record was found in Bindsachsen for his wife, Anna Catharina.
The Facius List records that Johann Heinrich & Johann Carl Maul, brothers from Bindsachsen, had registered as colonists on 16 January 1766 in Aufenau (near Wächtersbach) along with their two unnamed sisters.
Only [Johann] Karl Maul, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.
Karl Maul (age 20) settled in the Volga German colony of Norka. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 6 with the Konrad Weigandt family.
Karl Maul, his wife Anna Margaretha, and children (Johann Heinrich, age 4; Anna Margaretha, age 1) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 38 along with his mother-in-law Katharina Dörr.
The death of Karl Maul in 1799 is recorded on the 1811 census of Norka in Household No. 39.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that this Karl Maul came from the German region of Isenburg.
