History

Denver, originally part of Kansas Territory, was founded in 1858.  Today, Denver is the capital of the State of Colorado and its largest city.  The city and county of Denver are one and the same, but what many consider to be "Denver" is also located in the surrounding counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, Broomfield, and Jefferson.

Volga German families can be found living in and around Denver during the earliest years of immigration to North America.

The neighborhood of Denver that was originally founded by Volga Germans was known as Globeville, but today, Volga German descendants can be found in almost all neighborhoods of the Denver metropolitan area.

In Westminster, many Volga German families were affiliated with Valley Lutheran Church.

Globeville

Sallet reports that as early as 1885, Volga Germans were settling in the Globeville neighborhood of Denver, coming mostly from other Volga German settlements in the United States. By 1930 Globleville had an established settlement with well over 500 Protestant Volga German families from Norka, Beideck, Dobrinka, Dönhof and Frank along with 200 Roman Catholic Volga Germans mostly from the colony of Göbel.

Globeville was an independently incorporated as a town in 1891. In 1902, it was annexed into the city of Denver. The Globeville neighborhood northwest of downtown Denver was bisected and re-bisected by the construction of I-25 in 1958 and I-70 in 1964 which intersected in the heart of the neighborhood.
