Discussion & Documentation

Heinrich Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Heinrich Schmidt and his wife Anna are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johann Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife, Anna, settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 7 June 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 39.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Schmidt came from the German region of Hanau. The 1767 census records that Johann Schmidt came from the German area of Hannover.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schmidt family among the Volga German colonies.
