Two Anfang families arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Schröder. Their relationship to each other is not recorded. They settled in the Volga German colony of Wittmann.
(1) Johann Adam Anfang and his wife Maria are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Maria died en route.
Johann Adam Anfang, a weaver (Leinweber), and his [new] wife Christina arrived in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 3 August 1767 where they are recorded on a supplement to the 1767 census in Household No. 21.
The following year (1768), they relocated to the colony of Wittmann.
(2) Franz Anton Anfang is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Franz Anton Anfang, a farmer, and his wife Maria are recorded on the 1767 census in a separate list of families that had been recruited by Mr. Beauregard in Household No. 106.
The following year (1768), they also relocated to the colony of Wittmann.
Anna Maria Anfang, daughter of Franz Anfang, is recorded on the 1798 census of Wittmann in Household No. Wm53.
The 1767 census records that both of these Anfang families came from the German village of Pfaffenwiesbach.
There are no known surviving male lines of the Anfang family among the Volga German colonies.
