Johann Christian Batz, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Katharina, and son Christian (age not recorded) settled in the Volga German colony of Reinhard on 15 July 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12.
The parish register of Roßlau records a Christian Patz marrying Cath. Barbara Baumhemel on 28 May 1765. This may be the son Christian who is recorded in Reinhard in 1767.
The 1767 census records that Johann Christian Batz came from the German village of Blankenhain in the region of Sachsen (Saxony).
