Biography

Father Philipp Becker was born 15 August 1868 in the German colony of Selz in the Odessa Region.

He studied theology at the Roman Catholic Seminary in Saratov and was ordained on 18 August 1891.

The served in the following parishes:

Freidenfeld (near Heidelberg) (1891)
Blumenfeld (Odessa) (1892)
Köhler (1893-1895)
Zug (1895-1898)
Katharinental (Odessa) (2 August 1898 - 8 June 1903)
Katharinenstadt (1904-1906)

During his pastorate in the Köhler parish, he was an advocate for the creation of an independent parish of Hildmann (which was then served by the priest from Leichtling. While serving in the parish of Zug, he also taught in the local parish school there (400 students).

Beginning in August 1906, Father Becker became the editor of the German-language publication Klemens. He moved to Odessa in 1907 and continued to serve as editor of Klemens there and also the daily Deutsche Rundschau ("German Review") until at least 1914. His fate after that date is unknown.
