Discussion & Documentation

Philipp Engelmann, a farmer, his wife Maria, and children (Wilhelmina, age 13; Philipp, age 10; Johann, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard a koff named Alette under the command of Skipper Wybe Hendricks.

Philip Engelmann, his wife Maria Elisabeth, and children (Wilhelmina, age 15; Philip, age 11; Johann Peter, age 8) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Maria Elisabeth died en route.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Kukkus on 26 June 1767 where they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 32.

The widow of Philipp Engelmann from Kukkus and her son are recorded on the 1798 census in the colony of Balzer in Household No. Bz051.

The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Biskirchen near Braunfels.
