An article by Hermann Wäschke records the following going to Russia:
Jeremias Knoll, a butcher (Fleischhauer), from the city of Oranienbaum, originating in Saxony. He owned a brewing house with 7½ Morgen plowed land with rental and a small house with 1½ Morgen plowed land, but he had debts in the amount of 902 Thlr. 16 Gr. From the sale of his property, 638 Thlr. 1 Gr. 6 H. were paid. He went with five other persons to Russia.
The Knoll family did not go directly to Roßlau, but by a longer and safer route that took them to Coswig.
In Coswig, son Gottfried Knoll married on 10 April 1766 to Henriette Lindenhahn who also came from Oranienbaum. The entry in the marriage register reads:
den 10. April 1766 - Ist Gottfried Knoll, Fleischhauer und Kaiserlicher Russischer Kolonist, Meisters Jeremias Knolls Bürgers und Fleischhauers in Oranienbaum ehelicher dritter Sohn und Jungfrau Henriette Lindenhanin, Meisters Zacharias Lindenhans, Bürgers und Leinwebers in Oranienbaum eheliche einige Tochter in hiesiger Kirche eingesegnet und getraut worden.
[On 10 April 1766 Gottfried Knoll, butcher and Imperial Russian colonist and the legitimate third son of Jeremias Knoll (citizen and butcher in Oranienbaum), and virgin Henriette Lindenhan, daughter of Zacharias Lindenhan (citizen and linen weaver), married in Oranienbaum - marriage consecrated in the local church.]
Jeremias Knoll, his wife Sophia, and children (David, age 26; Sophia, age 18; Jeremias, age 10; Johann, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax along with Gottfried Knoll, a butcher, and his wife Henrietta.
Jeremias Knoll, his wife Dorothea [sic], children (Jeremias, age 10; Carl Leopolt, age 7), Gottfried Knoll, Friedrich David Knoll, and Henrietta Knoll are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767, along with a note that Gottfried died en route.
Jeremias Knoll, his wife Anna Dorothea Koch [from Oranienbaum], and children (Johann Friedrich, age 27; Sophia Henrietta, age 18; Jeremias, age 10; Karl Leopold, age 9] are recorded on the 1767 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 20. They had settled in Katharinenstadt on 7 June 1767.
The widow and children of Karl Knoll are recorded on the 1798 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. Ka049.
There is a Gottfried Knoll (age 1) recorded on the 1767 census of Orlovskaya in Household No. 58 as the stepson of David Alberg [see Alberg family] with whom the Knoll family had been traveling from St. Petersburg to Saratov. This Gottfried Knoll is believed to be the son of the above referenced Gottfried Knoll.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jeremias Knoll was a butcher from the German region of Dessau while the 1767 census records that he was a miller (Müller) from the German village of Keinberg in Sachsen (Saxony). The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Gottfried Knoll came from the German region of Dessau.
