Discussion & Documentation

Widow Anna Elisabeth Mengel and her children arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Der Engel Rafael under the command of Skipper Ehlert Kongsted.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 13 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9.

The 1767 census records that Elisabeth Mengel came from the German Busecker Tal (Busecker Valley) in the Darmstadt region.
