Discussion & Documentation

Andreas Kocher was born in approximately 1790 in Bavaria. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Rohleder. He is recorded there on the 1834 Census of Rohleder, on the 1850 Census of Rohleder in Household No. 64 (erroneously recorded as Kohler), on the 1857 Census of Rohleder in Household No. 84 with a note that he died in 1856. [The 1850 & 1857 censuses record his age such that he was born in approximately 1800 rather than 1790, which is the correct age calculated from the 1834 census.]
