Heinrich Sperl was born in approximately 1792 in the German region of Mecklenburg. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Tarlyk.
He is recorded there on the 1834 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 94, on the 1850 Census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 26, and on the 1857 Census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 35 along with a note that he had died there in 1856.
