Johann Janus, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Johanna settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 59.
In 1786, Johannes Janus moved from Rohleder to Reinwald.
Johann Janus from Rohleder is recorded on the 1798 census of Reinwald in Household No. Rw53 along with his wife and stepchildren.
The 1767 census records that Johann Janus came from the German village of Prag in the Böhmen region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
