Johannes Betz, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and children (Engelbert, age 17; Elisabeth Anna, age 11; Elisabeth, age 9; Peter, age 7; Philipp, age 5; Johann, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax. They arrrived in Oranienbaum with a single farmer, Johann Betz.
Johannes Beetz [sic], his wife Anna Christiana, and children (Engelbert, age 17¼; Anna, age 11; Elisabet, age 9; Peter, age 7; Philip, age 5¼) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that the mother Anna Christiana and son Peter died en route. They are also recorded being transported with Heinr. Beetz [sic] who also died en route.
Widower Johann[es] Betz and his children (Engelbert, age 18; Anna Elisabeth, age 13; Elisabeth, age 10; Philipp, age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. 35. They had settled in Nieder-Monjou on 7 June 1767.
Engelbert Betz and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Nieder-Monjou in Household No. Nm02.
The 1767 census records that Johann Betz came from the German village of Rheinberg.
