Discussion & Documentation

Johann Heinrich von Anben, a farmer, his wife, and his stepchildren (surname: Brug) settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 17 along with step-children (Heinrich Brug, age 19; Peter Brug, age 17; Nikolaus Brug, age 14; Jakob Brug, age 11; Katharina Elisabeth Brug, age 4). [See Brug Family.]

The 1767 census records that Johann Heinrich von Anben came from the German village of Burgwedel in the Holstein region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this von Anben family among the Volga German colonies.
