Discussion & Documentation

Johann Arp [sic], a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Adler (Eagle) under the command of the Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.

They arrived in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 May 1767. Johann is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29 along with a new wife, Dorothea, and her son (Peter Benedict).

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Arb came from the German region of Holstein. The 1767 census records that Johann Arp [sic] came from the German village of Kilrastof in the Holstein region.

There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants with this surname among the Volga German colonies.
