Discussion & Documentation

Daniel Schlitter, a single miller (Müller), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.

He married Maria Anna Knorr, the widow of Andreas Knorr, and they settled in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 13 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25.

The 1767 census records that Daniel Schlitter came from the German region of Anhalt-Köthen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schlitter family among the Volga German colonies.
