Anton Schmidt, a farmer, and his wife Anna Elisabeth settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 31 along with his stepdaughter Anna Maria Kritt (age 5).
The 1767 census records that Anton Schmidt came from the German region of Hamburg.
