Discussion & Documentation

Konrad Bell (age 18) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax. He is recorded on the Oranienbaum passenger list as the servant of Ludwig Hoff.

The Appendix to the 1775 Census of Schilling (No. 13) records that Konrad Bell is farming "with the aid of relatives." The 1775 census of Schilling furthur records that Konrad Bell was assigned to the colony as a laborer and that the community testifies that he came alone to Russia and did not receive loans for farming.

The 1798 census of Kukkus records Konrad Bell in Household No. Kk07.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Konrad Bell came from the German region of Stolberg.
