Max Muss, a farmer, and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 3 June 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 13.
Max Muss is recorded on the 1798 census of Dinkel in Household No. Dn09.
The 1767 census records that Max Muss came from the German village of Probate in the Holstein region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Muss family among the Volga German colonies.
