Hans Wilhelm Kretz, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 29 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 60.

Johann Georg Kretz is recorded on the 1798 census of Holstein in Household No. Ho26 and is believed to be from Dobrinka.

In 1833, Johann Heinrich Kretz moved from Dobrinka to Galka.

The 1767 census records that Hans Wilhelm Kretz came from the German town of Kiel in the region of Holstein.
