Uhl (Dobrinka)
Joseph Uhl, a farmer, immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) arriving in Flensburg on 26 June 1762. On 8 April 1763 in the parish of Hohn (Rendsburg), he married Christina Barbara Utz, the widow of Johann Christoph Utz.
They deserted the Danish colony later in 1763 and, along with her sons, joined the migration to Russia.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 15 April 1765 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 52 [where Joseph's surname is mistakenly recorded as Utz, and Christoph Utz (age 12) is recorded as his son rather than step-son].
Jacob Utz and his new bride are recorded on the 1767 census of Dobrinka in Household No. 34.
The Eichhorns record that Joseph Uhl came from the German village of Steinbach in Baden-Durlach. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Schneimet [?] in Schwaben (Swabia).
There are no known surviving male descendants of this Uhl family among the Volga German colonies.
