Rieb

Johannes Rüb was baptized on 15 April 1729 in the Reformed Church of Bellings. He married Anna Elisabeth Hohmann on 22 April 1751 in Hohenzell. She was born in Elm in 1730. The births of the following children are found in the parish records of Hohenzell: (1) Anna Kunigunda, born 26 December 1751, baptized 28 December 1751; (2) Johann Caspar, born 13 October 1754; (3) Johannes, born 11 March  1765. Immediately before leaving for the Russia, the Rüb family was living in Niederzell.

According to a document in the Hessian State Archive in Marburg, Johann Martin Möller from Breitenbach and Johannes Rüb from Niederzell requested to move to Russia in 1766. The request was rejected by the government in Hanau, but the families left secretly anyway during the night of 9-10 April 1766.

Johann Rieb, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 18; Kaspar, age 12; Georg, age 6; Johannes, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 10 August 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Nikolaus Peter Pink.

Johann Rieb, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Cunigunda, age 18; Caspar, age 13) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 3 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 50.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Rieb came from the German region of Hanau and the 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Ziegel in the Hanau region.
