Jakob Rein, a single farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Rohleder on 14 June 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 42 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Mariental in 1768.

The 1767 census records that Jakob Rein came from the German region of Zweibrücken.
