Johannes Kuhlmann and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 8 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 42.
The 1857 census of Rosenberg records the family of Johann Peter Kuhlmann from Kutter in Household No. 29.
Johann Georg Kuhlmann from Kutter and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Oberdorf in Household No. 70.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johannes Kuhlmann was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a craftsman (Handwerker).
Both documents record that Johannes Kuhlmann came from the German region of Isenburg.
