Matthias Wittmann, a craftsman (Handwerker), and his wife Magdalena [Lederhos] settled in the Volga German colony of Rohleder on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 37.

The 1767 census records that Matthias Wittmann came from the German village of Amberg in the Kurpfalz [Oberpfalz] region.
