Asmus Michelsen, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 25 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Maria Sophia under the command of Skipper Johann Bauert.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 3 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Asmus Michelsen came from Norway.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Michelsen family among the Volga German colonies.
