Jakob Henkel, a carpenter, his wife Anna, and their children (Anna, age 17½; Johann, age 16) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Widower Jakob Henkel is recorded on the 1775 census of Schilling in Household No. 77 along with the younger children of his second wife, the widow of Sebastian Lerch with whom he had arrived in Oranienbaum, and his youngest daughter Anna Elisabeth (age 4½).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Henkel came from the German village of Gelnhausen.
