Discussion & Documentation

Alexander Fischer, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 70 along with a note that he resettled to the colony of Kraft in 1768.

Alexander Fischer is recorded on the 1798 census of Kraft in Household No. Kf09.

In 1798, Johannes Fischer moved from Kraft to Galka. Because the other Fischer family in Kraft has a son named Johannes, this one is believed to be the son of Alexander.

Johannes Fischer from Kraft is recorded on the 1798 census of Galka in Household No. Gk47.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Alexander Fischer was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a craftsman (Handwerker).

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Alexander Fischer came from the German region of Darmstadt.
