Friedrich Eckel, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and daughter Anna Maria (age ¾) settled in the Volga German colony of Graf on 10 June 1766 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 14.
In 1782, Johann Peter Eckel moved from Graf to Astrakhan.
The 1767 census records that Friedrich Eckel came from the German village of Mannheim in the Kurpfalz region.
