Discussion & Documentation

Paul Just [sic], a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the snow-brig Die Frau Dietrika under the command of Skipper Joachim Friedrich Luhn.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Köhler on 10 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 24 along with his new wife Julianna Bettenheuser.

The 1834 census of Graf records in Household No. 60 that Andreas Jost [sic] from Köhler arrived in Graf in 1827.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Paul Just came from the German region of Erbach.
