Discussion & Documentation

Two Keberlein families arrived in the Volga German colony of Semenovka on 24 July 1767. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs additional research.

(1) Heinrich Keberlein, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and children (Anna Katharina, age 22; Johann, age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 August 1766 aboard the galliot named Die Perle (The Pearl) under the command of Skipper Gerhardt Hermann Thomsen.

They are recorded on the 1767 census of Semenovka in Household No. 5 along with the orphan Johann Adam Grein (age 12). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Keberlein & Grein families.

Heinrich's daughter, Katharina, appears to be recorded on the 1798 Semenovka Census in Household No. Se19.

(2) Johann[es] Keberlein, a farmer, his wife Eva Elisabeth, and children (Maria Elisabeth, age 18; Margaretha, age 15) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Diederika (Lady Diederika) under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Lunau.

They are recorded on the 1767 census of Semenovka in Household No. 7.

At some point Johannes Keberlein moved to Leichtling, because he is recorded in 1794 moving from Leichtling to Köhler.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Keberlein came from the German region of Würzburg. The 1767 census records that both of these Keberlein families came from the German village of Weisten [?] in the Würzburg region.
