Johann [Paul] Gerlinger, a farmer, his wife Katharina, and children (Johann, age 15¼; Peter, age 12) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.
Johann Herlinger [sic], his wife Maria, and sons (Johann, age 14; Peter, age not recorded) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Orlovskaya on 3 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 77 along with Paul's new wife Augustina and her daughter Johanna Sophia Schulz (age 15).

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Johann Paul Gerlinger came from the German region of Neustadt.
